REPUBLICAN CENTER FOR CONTINUING EDUCATION AND RETRAINING OF SPECIALISTS AT THE ASUспециалистов

The main task of the RCCE is to improve the quality of student education, improve their professional skills, and provide relevant knowledge. To ensure these tasks, the RCCE combines the preservation of fundamental education foundations and compliance with prospective needs of the individual and the society. The goals of Continuing Education are to train each staff member on latest trends in professional development.

The Continuing Education Center for Specialists was established in 2000 by the Ministerial Cabinet Resolution, and in 2007 it was given the status of the Republican Center by the President S.V. Bagapsh’s Decree. From 2000 to 2014 Professor M.A. Labakhua was the Director of RCCE, since 2014 till now the RCCE Director is the Associate Professor V.I. Pozdnyakov.

A specialized library was created at the Center, the office is equipped with computers and other technical training tools. Training Programs on thirty specialties have been developed in order to organize advanced training courses on the basis of Russian Educational Standards, taking into account local specifics and characteristics. The subject matter of each Program was adjusted by specialists of University Departments taking into account wishes and suggestions of customers. Among them, a special attention is given to programs and methodologies for pedagogical specialties. In line with modern requirements, the leading specialists of RCCE developed methodologies on 22 school subjects, which were published in two volumes and submitted to the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Abkhazia.

Not only Professors and Associate Professors of ASU, but also school teachers- methodologists, leading specialists from Ministries and Departments of Abkhazia, specialists from Russian Federation (Moscow, Ufa, St. Petersburg, Vladikavkaz, Karachaevo-Cherkessk, etc.) are involved in the work on Continuing Education Courses. Thus, 195 psychologists and 52 speech therapist-defectologists were trained jointly with the Moscow Social and Humanitarian Institute from 2002 up to 2012.

The RCCE has close communication with the Russian Regional Center on Continuing Education for Higher School Teaching Staff at the North Ossetian K. Khetagurov State University. Thanks to the highly qualified specialists of this Center, there is always an additional opportunity to familiarize our students with modern issues of Human Psychology, Pedagogy and Psychology of Higher Education, and also with main ways of educational content upgrading, and information technologies that promote professionally oriented education.

Personnel from various industries and public agencies require appropriate lecturers with proper specialization. In 2010 with the assistance of the RA Government and on the initiative of ASU Administration, the agreement was reached with the Administration of the President of the Russian Federation on holding Advanced Training Courses for civil servants of the Republic of Abkhazia.

To date, more than two thousand and three hundred specialists have completed Continuing Education training courses. Among them, 1,650 school teachers, 310 civil servants of RA - Ministers and their Deputies, Senior Officials of the State Institutions, as well as officials of Law Enforcement, Agriculture, Energy, Economics and ASU teaching staff. The Center holds Scientific and Practical Conferences including further publication of materials, Seminars and Consultations.

The RCCE team keeps improving its work on introduction of innovative methods into the trainings Management. Since 2014, Continuing Education Courses have been transferred to long-term training under the 120-hour Program, taking into account full-time or part-time term of Continuing Education.

The courses are held regularly throughout the academic year based on the 72-120 hour Program. Over the past time such courses benefited by
