D.I. GULIA SCIENTIFIC LIBRARY

 We see our Mission in supporting Education and Research at the University by creating necessary conditions for access to both information and modern services, educating in using scientific and educational information resources, and developing potential, which is in line with the University requirements.

The Library of the Sukhum State Pedagogical Institute was founded in 1932, on the basis of book collections of Sukhum Industrial School and Sukhum State Agricultural Institute, which in 1979 was transformed into the Scientific Library of the Abkhaz State University of the Republic of Abkhazia. In 2004, it was named after D.I. Gulia, the Abkhaz Literature Patriarch.

Total area - 1750 square meters.

Automated library and bibliographic system - electronic catalog (more than 1000 entries).

The book fund is 552.895 copies.

Every year the Library receives magazines and newspapers - more than 80 items from the Russian Federation, and 14 from local Editions.

ASU Scientific Library strives to maintain a high status. The professional priority of the library staff is to ensure the availability of scientific and educational resources, to offer modern information services required by the University.

Main goals:

·       Creating and offering modern information products and services that meet Educational ands Scientific individual needs of users;

·       Improving the information culture, developing informational competencies of Graduate Students and Lecturers;

·       Forming library information resources, strengthening communication with Faculties and other ASU Departments. Ensuring library development as a Resource Center for educational and scientific activities of the University;

·       maintaining and constantly replenishing the existing library fund;

·       conducting research and methodological work (analytical, organizational, consulting) in order to improve all areas of activities. Developing creative and constructive relationships with other libraries;

·       creating comfortable working conditions for staff and readers.
